The Bona uBuntu Programme is a collaboration between various stakeholders aimed at improving the quality of education and integration of visually impaired peoples in the Eastern Cape. In South Africa, in 2020, there were an estimated 11 million people with vision loss (19.1%).
The programme is funded by VISIO Foundation and is executed through a network of local key stakeholders in the province. Our primary focus is working within existing government and civil society structures to create sustainable improvement (through case identification, referral, preventive and promotive services), upliftment & empowerment therein; to ensure that partially sighted and blind children, aged 0-18, develop their full potential and participate in an inclusive society, at home, school and in communities.
